Sunflower in the News
Sunflower Featured in Community Foundation's Newsletter
Sunflower was featured in the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties' Summer 2010 Foundation Focus newsletter. The issue includes a photo from Sunflower's 2009 Peace Day celebration on the cover, as well as another photo inside and a piece about Roots & Shoots.
Sunflower Roots & Shoots is supported by a grant from the Marie Graber Martens Fund of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, and we couldn't be prouder to see ourselves featured in their publication!

Sunflower Wins Green For Being Green
In April 2010, Sunflower received a $500 grant award in the Nonprofits Going Green contest, sponsored by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. We were one of two Honorable Mentions in the "Most Green with the Least Green" category.
Sunflower won for our commitment to sustainable and green practices, some of which include our use of recyclables in the children's art projects, our commitment to serving local and organic produce for snacks (including some from our own little garden), our extremely reduced use of paper products, landscaping with native plants to attract wildlife and butterflies, and our exclusive use of live music in all our programs.
"We're a very green little organization," said Susan Caruso, Sunflower's Artistic Director. "It's just part of who we are. We're in a unique position to really educate young families, both children and their parents, about being green, simply by living the example. This award is a wonderful affirmation of that aspect of what we do."
The award was presented during a luncheon at the Community Foundation headquarters in West Palm Beach. Chandra Bill from WPTV was Master of Ceremonies. Sunflower Communications Director, Jaime Greenberg, attended and accepted the award on Sunflower's behalf.
The Nonprofits Going Green Contest is part of the Community Foundation's ongoing Nonprofits Going Green Program, which aims to to raise awareness, capacity, and motivation within the nonprofit community in Palm Beach and Martin Counties to improve the environmental sustainability of their operations and to raise public and corporate awareness and support for the nonprofit community. Other sponsors of the Nonprofits Going Green Contest were Quantum Foundation, Office Depot Foundation and FPL Energy Tips.
Many thanks to these sponsors, to the judging panel who selected us, and to all of YOU who make it possible for Sunflower to live the dream of being green!
